Meet Sarah McNamee, founder of What Little Wonder, a curated e-commerce shop offering gender-neutral baby essentials.

The online shop started as a side hustle. At the time, Sarah was a single mom juggling a full-time job when she discovered a need in the market for more gender-neutral baby items that were “beautiful yet functional that could easily be integrated into the modern mom’s home.”

“Honestly in the beginning I had no idea what I was doing,” she says. “I knew I had an idea that could really work, so I launched my website, trusted God, and the rest is history!”

That’s not to say that there weren’t any hiccups or challenges along the way. What Little Wonder is what she describes as a “one-woman business” with no employees, meaning that Sarah manages everything from website design to merchandising to point-of-sale. To ensure success, Sarah has also had to learn to leverage her strengths while building on her weaknesses. Additionally, as her business grew, so did her family – Sarah went from being a single mother of one to a married woman with five children.

“Now that I'm married, I'm super busy trying to be the best wife and mom,” she says. “My son was the initial inspiration but my family continues to inspire me each and every day. My husband and I recently welcomed our second son, which ignites even more of a fire inside me to do everything I can to succeed.”

She offers these “good success” tips to other female entrepreneurs:

Success Is Not Singular: "We rise by lifting others" is a common saying that I absolutely love. Success is not singular and it cannot be done alone. Many times when we encourage someone or help them, it becomes an encouragement to ourselves. Being a successful, thriving entrepreneur is no different - when we strive to help others, even in small ways, everyone wins.

Build Your Net Worth Through Your (Small Business) Network: “I am proud of the ability to help other small businesses through my shop. I feel that is so incredibly important, especially now as we find ourselves in a pandemic and so many small businesses are struggling to survive. Also, most, if not all, of the products we offer on the website are from brands that are owned by mamas. As a woman and small shop owner who is passionate about supporting others, it feels amazing to be able to support other small to mid-sized brands in this way.”

You’re Stronger Than You Think: “I've always considered myself to be a strong woman of God - but I have truly worked so hard to grow What Little Wonder to what it is now and there's so much more in store that has truly been such a blessing - going well beyond what I ever could've imagined in such a small amount of time. Sometimes it's easy to forget just how strong we really are until we're faced with some insurmountable challenges that we find ourselves overcoming.”
